Course Overview:Surgery in the cirrhotic patient can be done safely. However, this requires a firm understanding of the pathophysiology and complications of portal hypertension and liver decompensation. Furthermore, these patients should be managed in a multidisciplinary setting with the involvement of transplant surgeons and hepatologists.
