PORT JERVIS, NY (August 26, 2020) – The Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), and the Bon Secours Charity Health System announced the completion of three critical departments, which are part of the Investing in a Healthier Community Medical Village project at Bon Secours Community Hospital, a member of WMCHealth.

Fast and Expert Emergency Care

The latest phase of the expansion of the Emergency Department (ED) has been completed.  It includes the creation of 14 patient bays, four of which are dedicated to treating behavioral health patients.  The redesigned bays are equipped with new beds and advanced diagnostic and monitoring equipment.  The upcoming phases of the project will add an observation unit and Fast Track, and will nearly double the footprint of the space.

Additionally, the expanded ED at Bon Secours Community Hospital has wait times that are below the national average*.  In response, WMCHealth has launched the ED30 Pledge which promises that when patients visit the Emergency Department they will be seen by a provider within 30 minutes of completing registration.

Optimized Space for Nationally-Accredited Surgical Weight Loss Institute

Construction is now finalized on the 10,000-square-foot Surgical Weight Loss Institute, which includes eight private rooms designed for accessibility and sensitivity. Extra space is allotted in each room, doorway and hallway to allow for safe movement and transportation.

Expanded Laboratory Expedites Quality Care

The new 2,800-square-foot laboratory includes an enlarged core lab, blood draw room, blood bank and dedicated area for microbiology.  Additionally, updated refrigeration capabilities were added along with new equipment for chemical coagulation, sample analysis, hematology and microbiology.  The enhancements will facilitate efficient and accurate diagnoses.

A Message from Port Jervis Mayor, Kelly Decker

Medical Village – The Heart of a Healthier Community

The completion of the Investing in a Healthier Community project is expected to usher in a new era of healthcare in the City of Port Jervis and its surrounding tristate-area community with facility and diagnostic equipment upgrades and the development of a "Medical Village" hub for local residents.

At the center of the transformation is the development of the core of a Port Jervis "Medical Village" where Bon Secours Community Hospital will collaborate with community partners to provide health, wellness and other community services, such as women's health, mental health, pediatrics and overall wellness, in one convenient destination.

WMCHealth: Investing in a Healthier Hudson Valley

The Medical Village in Port Jervis is one of two such projects underway at WMCHealth. The second is a $134.9 million Healthy Neighborhood Initiative in Kingston, which includes the conversion of the entire HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus into a Health Village, an innovative health, wellness and human services hub for Ulster County and surrounding communities, and the renovation and expansion of HealthAlliance Hospital: Mary's Avenue Campus into a 21st century single-campus model of first-class healthcare delivery.
