William M. Goumas, MD, FACS, graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine, and did his residency at Boston University and affiliated hospitals as well as the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Medical College. He continued his training with a two-year fellowship in surgical oncology, endoscopy and solid tumor chemotherapy at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, New York.

From 1983-1985 he served our country in the United States Air Force as the Assistant Chief of Surgery at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas and from 1986-1987 as the Chief of Surgery at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.

Dr. Goumas previously served as South Dakota State Chairman Cancer Liaison Physician Commission on Cancer, and as co-chairman of the South Dakota State Cancer Control Committee. He is currently the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Cancer Liaison Physician with the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

During his surgical oncology fellowship, Dr. Goumas received specialty education in the treatment and surgical management of breast health care and breast cancer, colorectal and complex gastrointestinal diseases, thyroid and head and neck surgery, gynecologic oncology, melanoma and other skin cancers and soft tissue tumors.

In addition to the oncologic surgical procedures outlined above, Dr. Goumas is accomplished in a wide scope of general surgical care, including laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and appendectomies, hernia surgery, endoscopy and others. He continues participation in several surgical societies, including: The Society of Surgical Oncology, The American Society of Clinical Oncology, Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has published studies in several leading medical journals, and has presented to fellow surgeons at meetings and symposiums.

After being in private practice in Orange County for over five years, Dr. Goumas was recruited to join Ramapo Valley Surgical Associates and the Bon Secours Medical Group in March, 2011, where he brings surgical expertise and a high-level of patient care.
